Paula Elion

A multidisciplinary artist living and working in Stockholm, Sweden. Originally from Argentina and Israel, for Paula, Art is an endless cultural journey. To comprehend her Art, one must consider the concept of "translation" and the way artworks can acquire new interpretations and nuances across different cultural landscapes. Elion creates images and objects with which viewers can connect from their unique perspectives. The subjects that emerge in her works relate to the daily behaviours we exhibit within society, which, in turn, imposes its regulations on us. It starts with familial relationships and delves into the depiction of women in patriarchal societies, and explores identity and the perception of gender. A theme that has recently grown more personal for her is transformation, especially gender transformation. Her inspiration frequently stems from films, children's stories, family albums, costume catalogues, old photographs, social media posts, and even discarded items. Elion engages with a variety of materials, exploring paper, paint, glass, textiles, and aluminium foil, among others. Her studio serves as her experimental space. Paula is part of the Detroit collective of artists in Stockholm and has exhibited her work in Sweden, Israel, Mexico, Serbia, Germany, Argentina, among other places.
